God's Vessel

 God's Vessel by Ruth Navis

I am God's precious vessel, He's molding me of clay;
To work and serve, and love, and be with Him one day.

He gently forms and fashions me to make me what I ought to be,
But then someone acts carelessly and breaks this work of clay.

All anyone can see are the pieces on the floor;
They laugh and poke their fun at me, and walk right out the door.

I look to God in my brokenness and for help and mercy cry;
I'm all alone, broken pieces of stone that everyone's left behind.

I'm broken, bruised, and battered, but no one seems to care;
Then God above looks down in love, and shows me He is there.

He picks up all the pieces, he takes them one by one;
He glues them back together, until His work is done.

Now when people look at me, they can see all my scars.
They think that they are all my fault, that I've earned them, missed the bar.

So they continue to pick on me, because now I'm no longer pretty,
I cry out to God helplessly, and hope that he's not far.

"God, they're doing it again, it hurts Lord, can't you see?
They think I'm dumb, so they're making fun, they don't see they're breaking me.

I'm absolutely useless with all these cracks and scars,
I can't hold water or much at all like other, more beautiful jars."

God says then: "Come here my child. No matter what they say,
I'm here for you, with plenty of glue, to fix my vessel of clay."

He says: "If you look closer, you'll see they have scars too.
But they just try to hide them by noticing the ones on you.

If you treat them like I would, treat them all with love.
Keep your eyes on me, then all you'll see is your Father up above.

Your scars won't go away but you won't notice that they're there.
Instead you'll see the others, but treat them gently with care.

I made all the vessels, and no one's perfect, you see.
But when the others look at you they should be seeing me.

I feel your pain my child, but know my love is true.
Now go and help somebody else, the way that I've helped you."

I am God's broken vessel, I'm cracked, and scarred, and bruised.
But God shines His light, through the cracks so bright, I can still be used.

Don't despair my friend if you feel hopeless and blue.
You may be broken, but that's okay.
You can be better used that way,
To show God's light through night and day.
You're special and God always loves you!
