69. It Matters Who You Marry
Numbers 35-36
This is the thing which the LORD doth command concerning
the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry to whom they think best;
only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry. So shall not the inheritance of the
children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of
Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. Numbers 36:6-7
The daughters of Zelophehad inherited their father's
inheritance because he had no sons. And in order to keep the inheritance in the
same tribe, they had to marry someone in that tribe. We are told to not be
unequally yoked together with unbelievers. One of those ways is to not marry
someone who is not a child of God. They can lead you astray from God and cause
you to lose rewards in heaven. If you're single, are you staying close to God
and asking Him to bring you a godly husband? If you're married, are you thankful
for the godly husband God has given you? And if he's not godly, will you honor
him anyway out of obedience and honor and love for God?
