143. Serving God Will Cost Something

2 Samuel 24, 1 Chronicles 21-22, Psalm 30

And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely but it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.   2 Samuel 24:24

David had to choose a punishment for his sin and he chose the pestilence from God because He knew that God was merciful. In order to stop the pestilence David bought a threshingfloor to offer a burnt offering to God. He was offered it for free but David insisted on paying for it knowing that serving God always costs something. What are you willing to pay to serve and honor God? To what length are you willing to go to bring Him an offering? What are you willing to sacrifice for the Lord your God?
