186. Where’s Your Faith?

2 Kings 12-13, 2 Chronicles 24

And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.     Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.     And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.     And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the pries, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.     And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.   2 Chronicles 24:2,17-18,20-22

In what do you place your faith? Where it is rooted and grounded determines it's survival. Joash's faith was based on the faith and encouragement of Jehoiada the priest who raised him. When Jehoiada was alive, Joash followed the Lord and did what was right. But, when Jehoiada died, He turned from and forsook the Lord and in turn the Lord forsook him. Because his faith was based on something movable, he walked away from God and His commandments and even killed Jehoiada's son. When your faith is in men or based on a person's faith or in anything that is material or mortal, it will eventually die and you will turn from God and His commandments. But, when your faith is rooted and grounded in Christ and His word, He will keep you from falling. You too are human and cannot stop yourself from making mistakes but you can place your faith and trust in Christ who is able to keep you close to Him and secure in His love.
