229. Follow Authorities As They Follow Christ

Jeremiah 35-37

Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;     Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:     But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.   Jeremiah 35:8-10

There is wisdom in what those before us have taught us. Especially when their teaching lines up with the word of God or instills good and moral ethics in us, we would do well to heed them. Do you have a teachable spirit? Are you willing to comply with what those in authority say to do as long as it lines up with the word of God? Usually, they have your best interest in heart and aren't trying to hurt or confine you. When you follow them as they follow Christ, you can learn a lot of wisdom and live a good life.

Deuteronomy 5-7 O that there were such an hear in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, and it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!    Deuteronomy 5:29 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.    Deuteronomy 6:24 God made it clear, and the children of Israel understood that all the commandments that God had given them were for their good and because God loved them. When there are things that God convicts you of, or rules applicable to you from His word, what is your response? Do you understand that He loves you and wants only the best for you?
