304. Treasure In Heaven Is Better Than Treasure On Earth

Matthew 19, Mark 10

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.     And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.   Mark 10:21-22

Is there something in your life that is getting in the way of you following Jesus? Do you hold so tightly to the things you love that it's worth choosing things or pleasures over Him? Unfortunately, possessions take hold of our affections easier and stronger than they should. But if you will give up your possessions, or whatever it is that God asks of you, you will have treasure in heaven that won't ever be broken or stolen. The cost on Earth may seem great to follow the Lord, but it will be worth it all once we get to heaven. Will you set my affection on things above instead of the things on this earth?

72. God Does All Things For Our Good

Deuteronomy 5-7 O that there were such an hear in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, and it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!    Deuteronomy 5:29 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.    Deuteronomy 6:24 God made it clear, and the children of Israel understood that all the commandments that God had given them were for their good and because God loved them. When there are things that God convicts you of, or rules applicable to you from His word, what is your response? Do you understand that He loves you and wants only the best for you?
