324. Don’t Steal God’s Glory

Acts 11-12

And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.     And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.     And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.   Acts 12:21-23

The people praised Herod by calling him a god because of the oration he made to them. But, instead of giving God the glory, he kept it for himself thereby agreeing with the statement. There is only one God and He is the only one that deserves the glory and the praise. What about your life? Who gets the glory for any good that you are or do? You are not good in and of yourself, it is only God in you. Will you give God the glory for the good that He is and that He has done?

Deuteronomy 5-7 O that there were such an hear in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, and it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!    Deuteronomy 5:29 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.    Deuteronomy 6:24 God made it clear, and the children of Israel understood that all the commandments that God had given them were for their good and because God loved them. When there are things that God convicts you of, or rules applicable to you from His word, what is your response? Do you understand that He loves you and wants only the best for you? Or do you choose to think He doesn't know what He's doing and wants to keep you from having fun or enjoying life?
