61. Do Not Speak Evil Of God Given Authority
Numbers 16-17
And they gathered themselves together against Moses and
against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the
congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore
then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD? And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that
the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine
own mind. If these men die the common
death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then
the LORD hath not sent me. But if the
LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with
all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye
shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. And
it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the
ground clave asunder that was under them:
And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses,
and all that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. Numbers 16:3, 28-32
The family of Korah made a very big mistake when they
decided to challenge the authority of Moses and Aaron. It ended up costing them
their lives. Moses and Aaron were ordained of God to lead the children of
Israel. So, in your life, there are God ordained authorities. There are ways of
approaching, and discussing things, including disagreements, but to challenge
their authority because you think you’re just as qualified, or spiritual, is
selfish, and unacceptable with God. If we disagree with authority, we are to do
so respectfully and in a way that still honors the authority that God has given
them. How do you treat those that are in authority over you? What is your
attitude toward them? Would God be pleased with your attitude and actions?
