73. It’s Not About You
Deuteronomy 8-10
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy
God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD
hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these
nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee. Not for thy righteousness, or for the
uprightness of thine hear, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the
wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before
thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Deuteronomy
9:4-5
God knew the tendencies and pride of the children of Israel,
just as He knows the tendencies and pride of us today. The common denominator?
We're all human. We would like to think we get special treatment for one reason
or another. Especially if we feel like we've been extra good...especially
compared to someone else. But God doesn't compare us with other people. In
fact, in 2 Corinthians we are told not to compare ourselves with other people.
God is so good to us to give us blessings, but we don't deserve them. When
something good happens, do you praise God for His goodness and love? Or do you
think that you deserved this reward for your goodness? There is no goodness in
us apart from God. Anything good we do is because of God. Sometimes, like the
instance with the children of Israel, God blesses us because of others
wickedness. It has nothing to do with how good we are, but it has to do with
God punishing the wickedness of others. How is your attitude and view of yourself?
Do you approach God, people, and life with a heart of humility? Or do you think
that it's all about you?
