89. Your Motivation Matters

Judges 1-2

And the angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.     And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?     And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.     And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.     And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.          Judges 2:1-2, 7-8, 10

Why do you do what you do? Is it because you believe it's what's right? Are you following the Lord or do you only have the motivation to do what's right when those in authority are encouraging you to do so? Your decision to follow the Lord should be because you love Him and you want to serve Him because if those that you look to for guidance pass away, your faith and strength is in the Lord and you will continue to serve Him. Why you do what you do matters. Without your foundation and trust in God and His word, you will crumble and your faith will fail because any other foundation can be taken away but God and His word will never change or fail! You need to serve God but not just because someone else is. You need to serve God because you love Him and want to do what's right. He will give you the strength to keep going even when things are hard!
