147. Don’t Work In Vain

1 Chronicles 26-29, Psalm 127

Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.   Psalm 127:1

You can do everything to the best of your ability to instill rules, godly principles, and order in your home. But, if God is not in it, it is vain, empty, useless, destructive, deceptive, and all the other words used in the definition of vain in the Strongs concordance for this verse. You cannot depend on what you do and how high your morals are to keep things running smoothly and to keep danger away. You have to depend on the Lord. So also the city can be surrounded by the toughest guards and we could have the best law enforcement but if God is not protecting our city, then it too is vain. You ought to be a good steward of what God has given you and of the responsibilities He places on you in your life. But, if you do it in your own wisdom and strength, it will all be for nought. Only when you do it in Christ's strength and with the Lord's help, will you succeed in what God has called you to do.
