278. Know Your Bible

Matthew 4, Luke 4-5

And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:     For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:     And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.     And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.   Luke 4:9-12

This was the third thing that Satan tempted Jesus with. The first two times, Jesus used the word of God to resist temptation. Satan thought he had caught on and gotten the upper hand by also using the word of God to tempt Jesus the third time. Jesus again used the word of God to refute Satan. Even though Satan used the word of God, he failed to use it correctly and in context with the rest of God's word. This is why it is crucial that you know the word of God for yourself. That you spend time reading, studying, and memorizing it. There are two big reasons to know God's word in context. One, so you don't misuse it yourself when talking to others or applying it in your own life. Two, so when Satan tries to tempt you to think or feel a certain way using the word of God, you know what the truth is and can use it to resist him and the temptation he brings your way.
