283. Don’t Be A Hypocrite
Matthew 5-7
Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall
be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you
again. And why beholdest thou the
mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in
thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say
to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam
is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite,
first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly
to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Matthew 7:1-5
People like to use the phrase "Judge not". But
what they forget is "that ye be not judged". It's not simply about
never judging anyone or anything, but these verses are saying that we need to
be careful who and what we judge because we will be judged by the same standard
that we judge others on. Which is why that is followed up with the mote and
beam thing. If there's something that you’re going to call someone else on, you
need to make sure that you’re practicing what you’re about to preach. Otherwise
you’re just making yourself a hypocrite. Will you stay right with God so that you
can help others be the same?
