335. Prioritize Others’ Souls Over Your Liberty
1 Corinthians 9-11
Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for
why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience: For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I
evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks? Whether therefore ye ear, or drink, or
whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Give none offence, neither to the Jews,
nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: Even as I please all men in all things,
not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be
saved. 1 Corinthians 10:29-33
Although God has given us liberty in what we eat and many
other choices there is one way in which what we do, even though it's not wrong,
would be considered wrong. If our choices and what we do cause another person
to sin. We also must be careful not to judge other people for the convictions
that they hold. They have liberty and free will just like we do and it is God's
job to show them how He wants them to live. You cannot allow other people's
opinions trump how God wants you to live, but at the same time, when it comes
to someone who is weak in the faith and still growing in Christ you need to be
careful not to say or do something that would cause them to sin or to walk away
from God. In all things that you do, God should be getting the glory. He can
guide you in what He wants you to do, and how you act around others so as not
to cause offence. Will you choose to follow God even if it means refraining
from things that aren't wrong for another's benefit? Will you put the
importance of someone's soul above exercising your liberty?
