357. Live For The Heavenly, Not The Earthly

Hebrews 11-13

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.     For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.     And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.     But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.   Hebrews 11:13-16

The people in the Old Testament didn't have much, if any, of the word of God depending on who it was. But even though they hadn't received the promises yet, they still believed God and lived in faith that God would keep His promises. They lived for the eternal and God was not ashamed to be called their God and prepared for them a city. You have the entire word of God and have seen many of God's promises fulfilled. What excuse do you have for not living completely by faith and for the eternal? You have none. Do you seek a heavenly country? The Bible says that God has prepared a place for you and for all who have trusted Christ. Do you live to gain rewards in heaven or to gather treasure here on earth? Is God ashamed to be called your God? Or do you make Him glad with your life? You need to keep your eyes on Christ and the rewards that you need to store in heaven and not on yourself and the temporal treasures on this earth.
